What is GRID Technology?
Grid computing enables the virtualization of distributed computing and data resources such as processing, network bandwidth and storage capacity to create a single system image, granting users and applications seamless access to vast IT capabilities. Grid technology enables a user to perceive and utilize a network computer system as a single, large virtual computer.

Aim of the GRID SIG:
The aim of this Grid Special Interest Group (SIG) is to establish the capabilities and reputation of a new SME-based Grid technology vendor community. The emphasis is on technology, service and application development for Grid-based systems.

Objectives of the Grid SIG:
To provide a single point of access to the electronic repositories, archives and portals that are relevant to early adopters of Grid. This will include the provision of a regular news-letter and RSS news feed;

To co-ordinate a series of activities to increase the awareness of potential Grid technology developers on the relevant specifications and toolkits. This will be supported by facilitating participation in those activities identified as most relevant to the community;

To support the development and adoption of new tools and systems that will enable the creation of a thriving Grid technology community. This includes the adoption, and development, of suitable open source tools.
