What is e-learning? E-learning is the use of information and communications technology to support distributed learning. E-learning systems use a combination of locally accessed and network-based electronic resources to provide the required learning materials and mediated activities for individuals and collaborating groups.
Aim of the e-learning SIG The aim of this e-learning Special Interest Group (SIG) is to provide content, tool and system development companies operating in this sector with access to information, materials and events that will support their commercial activities.
Objectives to support the aim of the e-learning SIG The objectives of the e-learning SIG in support of this aim are to:
Provide a single point of access to the electronic repositories, archives and portals that are relevant to the e-learning content, tools and system development community. This will include the provision of a regular news-letter and RSS news feed;
Co-ordinate a series of activities to increase the awareness of the e-learning development community on the relevant national and international specifications and standards. This will be supported by facilitating participation in those activities identified as most relevant to the community;
Support the development and adoption of new tools and systems that will enable the e-learning content creation community to improve its competitiveness in terms of cost and quality. This includes the adoption, and development, of suitable open source tools.
