The aims of the .NET SIG

Digital South Yorkshire (d-SY) has established a Special Interest Group (.NET SIG) within Sheffield and the South Yorkshire area to help local companies and their staff enhance the region’s Microsoft .NET development skill base. With continuing support from d-SY it is intended that the .NET SIG will merge with the existing .NET User Group (DNUG North).

The .NET SIG aims to provide an opportunity for .NET developers and those associated with the Microsoft Development platform to network with like minded people. It delivers value to the developer community by offering a convenient, non threatening environment in which to meet, talk, socialise and learn within your local peer group. It differentiates itself from other developer communities by being locally focused and linked to other locally based d-SY communities.

Typical .NET SIG deliverables:

>High quality administration of events and SIG membership

>Development of on-line resources and community

>Provision of informal and local venues for meetings and events
>Provision of quality technical speakers (through Microsoft, INETA the International .NET Association, local companies and d-SY members)
>Provision of ad hoc additional services depending on demand and the requirements of members (e.g. subsidised training, learning materials)

Links with national communities

By establishing this Special Interest Group d-SY aims to provide a single point of access for .NET related resources within South Yorkshire and establish links to national communities such as ACCU, VBUG, Developer Fusion, UK SQL Server User Community, etc. There will also be a regular electronic Newsletter to keep members up to date once the SIG’s on-line resources are fully established.
